History

Background: Phoebe Halliwell is a Charmed One. To demons and warlocks, it means that she's a very powerful witch. One of 'THE THREE'. To Phoebe, it means that she has a connection to her family that's stronger than blood and that's more important to her. Family. That is the center of Phoebe's world and it's understandable from a girl that lost her mother before she was a year old and never really knew her dad until she was an adult. She was raised by her headstrong, free spirited grandmother, with her two older sisters, Prue and Piper, until Grams died. Her death left a hole in Phoebe that sent her to New York for a while to find herself until the call of family and an empty bank account, brought her back to San Francisco. What's that quote about family has to take you in? Despite Prue and Phoebe's inevitable arguing due to being strong-willed, the mansion once again became her home. Out of work and bored, Phoebe found a book up in the attic. In a what the hell moment, she recited a spell that changed her life forever. It unlocked the magical abilities of the Halliwell sisters with Prue’s power of telekinesis, Piper could freeze time and Phoebe could see the future from a touch, ironic for a girl that in life, jumped in without looking. Passive wasn't exactly something that Phoebe was good at, so while her sisters could defend themselves with their powers, Phoebe couldn't exactly hurt anyone with hers. That meant learning martial arts. Phoebe told others it was to fight against the demons and warlocks that came after them. The truth was it was to help protect her sisters. Unfortunately, it didn’t help Phoebe protect her heart against Cole, the half demon sent to destroy the Charmed Ones, who ended up falling in love with Phoebe. Judgment was something that Phoebe had to deal with, including from her family, so her empathy with Cole was almost inevitable. Her stubborn determination to prove he was worth taking a chance on, led to her fighting against her sisters. Sadly, Cole couldn’t overcome the demon side despite his best efforts. After Cole's defeat, the Halliwell sisters were offered a life where they wouldn’t have magic. Phoebe ultimately turned it down, because it wasn't so much the power, but the lineage through her sisters, mother, grandmother and ancestors back to Melinda Warren, that Phoebe wanted to keep close. Personality: Black Belt Barbie. It should've been an insult, but Phoebe turned it into a badge of honor. Blessed with beauty, gorgeous curves and a Victorian mansion in San Francisco, at a glance, she's a Barbie doll playing dress-up in a Barbie mansion: pretty but plastic, appearance not substance. And while Phoebe uses her wealth and beauty to her advantage, she is so much more than a Barbie doll: Phoebe is strong, intelligent and got a black belt in martial arts, a 180 from the stereotype, to protect her family. Phoebe is the epitome of not judging a book by its cover. Along with her martial arts ability is her capacity to have an open heart despite the loss in her life. Rather than close herself off as most people would, Phoebe opens herself up more with her natural empathy and compassion. It doesn’t take much to put herself in their shoes as she’d had quite a lot of life’s experiences to draw from; even after failed relationships, she doesn’t give up on love. Whether it’s to help others by giving advice or whether it’s taking a chance on a new relationship and making herself vulnerable, which keeps her heart open. Phoebe is far from being a pushover, however. Just because she empathizes with what you've gone through, it doesn't mean she won't hesitate to kick your ass when you need it. She had to face down the Source of all Evil when it possessed the body of her love, Cole. After that, telling a boss to take their head out of their ass without caring about being fired is easy. She is impulsive despite the contradiction of the impulsive behavior being connected to her premonitions. Some people would take the gift of premonitions and logically map out how to avoid what was seen and the consequences attached to it. Phoebe has a tendency to jump before looking, even after getting an image from an object of what will come. Her primary instinct is to rush in, help and damn the consequences. Phoebe goes where angels fear to tread. Phoebe is fine with labels assigned to her, Charmed One, impulsive, and a black belt Barbie especially if it means that you underestimate her and never see her coming.
