Girl's Night Out - For Kate
Phoebe was revitalized being in the city. It was amazing what a few weeks in New York City can do for a girl after months on an island. Phoebe was taking advantage of it and she planned on dragging Kate with her. Who knew when they'd get this opportunity again in a city that didn't sleep. Instead of dressing for clubbing, Phoebe put on her jeans and a backless top. While she loved dressing up there were times when she loved dressing down just as much.
She picked up Kate in a taxi (god was that nice to be able to use those again) and headed toward A small jazz/blues club that had live bands but they could talk, too. It was a place that Phoebe had frequented a lot when she lived in New York. As the cab pulled up to the establishment in an old brick building she grinned over at Kate. "It's down in the basement and you almost feel like you have to say a code to get in like in the 20s."

She tugs up the leather pants and down the burgundy micromesh over her black bra. "Been a damned long time since I could feel the sidewalk vibrating from music," she says, and it's anything but a complaint. "How'd you find this place?"

Phoebe pushed it open and was assaulted by sound and memories. All of them good. "And I wanted to share a little of my memories with you." She laughed, "Damn, they recreated everything. It's perfect. Welcome to Smalls, Kate."

She decides for it, putting on a little bit of a smirk, while she glances around. "Not my usual kind of place, but it's got potential." Her elbow catches Phoebe lightly in the ribs. "C'mon, let's get a drink."

The cocktail waitress who comes over arches an amused eyebrow at Kate's antics and Kate shrugs, a little come hither in her eyes that feels all kinds of wrong. She commits to the bit long enough to make sure they get great service, then puts it away, trying not to think about the last time she turned her flirt off.
"Gotta say, this is better than Victorian London."

She catches her bottom lip in her teeth, snagged on a worse thought. "At least we're old enough to get the millions of ways life isn't fair. If we went back to Hawaii, I don't think Lilo'd ever stop screaming." But she might, if Nani wasn't there.

She remembered feeling the flames licking her body when she'd had the vision of her future self dying. There hadn't been blisters, but it felt like they were there for a few minutes after she woke up.

She takes a sip, thinks of Will, and shakes her head again at a life where the only people she trusted for years are people she hardly sees. It's okay, though, and that's the weird thing. She'll drink the Guinness in new daddy's honor and try to catch up with him in a few days.
"The only thing that wasn't real about it was that Neal was with me and that didn't even seem not real. I knew it probably was one of those dream things the whole time, but it didn't change anything."

She sips her Guinness and shrugs, not wanting to ignore the question about Neal and make a bigger issue out of it. "It was awhile ago, so it was strange, Neal being the one who went with me. He didn't really fit in, you know, but he didn't not fit either. It's just...like me going to an opera."
no subject
"Does Neal remember it, too? I mean did it feel like his world to him while he was there or was it like Victorian England? Very much aware that it's not your place and time but a cool adventure."
no subject
She sips her beer and tries to figure out how to explain any more clearly than she already has.
"If you woke up tomorrow and were back in your world with someone from the island, you'd know that it was probably like the thing that happened to me and Neal. You wouldn't be sure until you woke up again, but it's more like getting instantly transported home than anything else."
no subject
Even so, it would be hard to want to 'wake up' except Kate had Lilo to make her want to. Phoebe wasn't so sure that she'd ever come out of it.

The date.
She sighs and drinks her Guinness down at least an inch, then deflects the question that's definitely coming with, "So you and Trip, huh?"
no subject
"I don't know if there's a me and Trip, but there could be." She was wise enough to know that it would always be like Vegas. What happened on the island stayed on the island and there wouldn't be anything beyond that. A few centuries took care of that. It wasn't like Kate and Declan where you knew there was a possibility of beyond the island.

"I think it's great." The thing is, she might not have, what with how her friendly and better than friendly fucks keep choosing other people over her. But Pheebs and Trip both deserve someone without her baggage. Neal's...sort of matches at least.

Phoebe hadn't realized that her muscles had been a little tight until they began to loosen. "You sure? I mean this is the first time for me standing on this side of the fence." Usually it was either her running when it looked like someone wanted a commitment or watching others choosing someone that wasn't her.
no subject
"Yeah, I'm sure. As long as I'm still your go-to for threesomes." That is bullshit and her smirk pretty much says it. "Seriously. It's fine. Consider this your friendly neighborhood shovel speech. He gets one too."

It would also explain the volume turned down on the flirting with the waitress.

No matter how much she tried to tell herself it was, though, the suit and the date, were not the problem.

Which leads to her remembering the date, and her reaching for the whiskey because seriously, what the fuck? Blindsiding a girl with a suit and flowers is so not fair.
no subject
"Annoying flying guy?" She laughed, "I think that pretty much trumps pain in the ass leprechaun."
no subject
She sips the whiskey and gives Phoebe's expectant look a little shrug. "You expecting a blow by blow? 'Cause I gotta say, there've been a lot of blows." Yeah, she meant it just like that.

As much as she loved and had a great variety with her advice column, there were still moments of same shit, different day.
no subject
Like, pretty much every day with Neal right now. She still has no idea what's going on in his head. At least Sawyer gave it up in his eyes. But Neal's so good, she can't read him. Or maybe she's just too scared to try.

She nudges Phoebe's glass across the table to her. "To blowjobs. Giving them, and bringing the boys to their knees."

She realized as she said that, that Kate was an odd combination of friends with benefits and sister. (not in a Flowers in the Attic way) But Kate got her a lot more than Piper, Prue or Paige ever would. Sort of in the way that Cole got her though Kate had never seen that dark side of her.
